Getting Personal: Who I Am and What I Love (Baking <3)

Hello there! If you have not guessed by now, this is my first time writing a blog post, and this blog will be about baking. I have never done anything like this before, but I do a lot of baking, and I really enjoy it, so I figured I would share that joy with others. But before we get to the fun stuff (and the reason I assume you are here if you decided to look at a baking blog) I am going to talk a bit about myself so that you can get to know me before just listening to me ramble about my favorite sweets, or the irritation that comes from trying to keep chocolate properly tempered for making cake pops (ugh).

I grew up always watching mom in the kitchen, taking seemingly random foods and seasonings, and turning them into something delicious. I started learning when I was about seven, since that was when mom thought me old enough to start using the oven without the fear that I would burn myself every few seconds. She taught me how to do simple things at first, such as eggs and pancakes. I found that I enjoyed cooking, and even more helping mom with cooking. As I got older, I learned new recipes and learned how to make adjustments to said recipes to suit my taste. Once I was able to use the oven without supervision, I started a yearly tradition of waking up really early on Mother’s Day and my mom’s birthday, and I would cook her pancakes and eggs for breakfast and make her coffee so she could have breakfast in bed. There was one year I was doing this very thing, and I had decided a couple days prior that I wanted to try something different, so I flipped through a recipe book for ideas, and I came across a recipe for almond bread. Now, I had never made bread before, but it seemed simple enough and I knew she loved almonds, so without telling her what I needed it for, I had her help me get the extra ingredients for it, and come the next morning, I worked on making her the almond bread to go alongside her usual pancakes, eggs, and coffee. It was difficult, and different from what I was used to (and very messy for a nine-year-old) but I managed to get it made and not burn anything. She absolutely loved it, and I loved that I could make her happy by doing that for her, especially since it was so fun to make. That really set me off on making baked goods.

Since then, I have experimented with different things. Baking cookies and brownies and cakes and cupcakes. I became addicted, from the process of making these sweet treats to the joy on others faces when they would enjoy what I made. I recently started doing other things, such as cake pops and cocoa bombs, which have been a big hit among my friends and family. I have been trying to turn it into a business, having started my business, Kaity’s Creations, when I was 14. I started out selling homemade jams and jellies that I had been making as part of my home economics classes. I was homeschooled, so my mother taught me everything, a lot of it being more on the practical side of things, such as cooking and baking skills. Selling the jams and jellies at our local farmers market had been a fun experience and allowed me to buy myself my first computer. Between my love of baking and the fun I had selling my creations at the market, I decided I wanted to do it full time and make it my source of income, be my own boss. Then we had a major storm come through, and then I had started working a job and started college, and then we had covid, so that dream went to the back burner. In the last few years, I have tried to bring back Kaity’s Creations and sell my treats but have had no luck. I’ve made stuff for friends and family and made posts on Facebook and Instagram with nothing coming back. So, I am taking to blogging about my creations and hopefully can share my joy of baking with y’all in this way.

I think I will leave off here for this week. I will be trying to post at least once a week, probably stick to Wednesdays, but as you will soon come to find out, I am terrible at keeping a schedule XD. I will be sharing some of my favorite recipes, tips, tricks, and probably some rants about what is happening with me in my life. If there are any specific recipes y’all want to see from my list of favorites, drop a comment and I will dig through my list and post it under the recipe tab for y’alls enjoyment. Bye for now!
